Instructions
Body of Research Paper
Follow
the directions below for the completion of the body paragraphs draft
assignment for Unit VI. If you have questions, please email your
professor for assistance.
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to continue drafting your academic argumentative research paper.
Description:
In this assignment, you will write three to four body paragraphs
according to the form that is explained in “Lesson 3: The Body
Paragraphs.” The following requirements must be included in the
assignment:
- Body Paragraphs: You will construct three to
four paragraphs comprised of five to seven sentences each. Each
paragraph should be between 150-200 words. At a minimum, this portion of
the paper should be around 450-600 words (for three to four
paragraphs); a body section of this length will meet the minimum
requirements of the assignment. The following components must be
included in each body paragraph (in the following order).- Sentence 1: Point/reason sentence: This topic sentence will contain one of your reasons.
- Sentence 2: Explanation: In this sentence, you provide information that further develops or explains Sentence 1.
- Sentence 3: Illustration: This sentence introduces evidence that supports the reason that is presented in Sentence 1.
- Sentence
4: Explanation of the illustration: Because the evidence does not
necessarily stand on its own, you need to provide explanation so that
the reader will understand how you interpreted the evidence to come to
your reason. - Sentences 5-6: Second illustration and explanation
(optional): You may choose to include a second piece of evidence that is
then followed by an explanation. - Last Sentence: Transition: In
this sentence, you will signal to the reader that you will be moving on
to another point in the next paragraph. You do this to ease the movement
from one point to another.
- Be sure to include the introduction and literature review you have already created and revised.
- Use APA conventions to cite and reference all sources used to support your argument.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA Introduction
Medical
Marijuana is the use of Marijuana for medicinal purposes, and it is an
item that has been very controversial in the American public as some
people support the legalization while others are strictly opposingthe
same. The legalization of medical marijuana can lead to many patients
with chronic pain being able to get medication that helps them deal with
the ever-present pain while using other drugs. Onthe other hand,
legalization has the risk of making the availability of marijuana to be
very high, and it can increase the number of people that make use of
marijuanafor recreation. The introduction of medical marijuana has been
proven to be very useful in helping with dealing with people that are in
extreme pain from diseases that have chronic pain as one of the side
effects that impact patients. Conditions such as cancer have been proven
to be very painful to treatthrough chemotherapy, and the use of medical
marijuana is effective in helping patients to deal with the
painwhenever they are undergoing the process. The issue of legalizing it
has also been a problem because it brings the risk of having many more
people getting access to the drugs and getting to use them for
recreation. The main controversy, in this case, is whether the
legalization of medical marijuana will bring more benefits than harm to
the country’s populations as a wholeand if cannabiscan become more of a
gateway drug in the process. The ability to help patients with chronic
pain to deal with it peacefully is an essential factor to consider as it
can also lead to the reduction in the use of opioid drugsthat are
currently used as painkillers in the industry. The disadvantage of
havingmore people using cannabis for recreation and having the drug as a
gateway drug should also be considered as it has the potential to
causeharm to society. Medical marijuana should be legalized in all
places, as the advantages of the process are many morecompared to the
disadvantages.
MEDICAL MARIJUANA Literature Review Preface
In
the past decade, the topic of medical marijuana has been a
controversial one and one that has attracted a lot of supporters and
critics. There have also been many types of research undertaken to
determine the medical benefits of marijuana and also the appropriateness
of a policy that can help legalize the use of these drugs across all
the states. The results have been different, and the focus has also been
different depending on the researchersand the data they gather. An
analysis of these papers will help give a clear view of the issues
already determined and the gaps identified that requirefurther
studies.BodyIn their article “Medical Marijuana and Marijuana
Legalization,” Rosalie LiccardoPaculaand Rosanna Smartlook in details on
the issue of how other studies have assessed the legislation of
marijuana and the response that the public has had in these areas.
People should understand the differences that people have when it comes
to adapting the marijuana laws on state levels and the impact that it
has on the overall operations of civilians in different areas. The study
can assess the heterogeneity of policies, the timing of the
evaluations, and the measures of use considered(Pacula, & Smart,
2017)when the other studies were undertaken and hence generating data on
the accuracy of these other studies. The information in this study will
help me to understand the variance that other studies have when they
assess the topic of medical marijuana as well as the differences
involved among these issues. In “Do medical marijuana laws reduce
addictions and deaths related to pain killers?” the authors of the paper
make a good comparison of the relationship between the legalization of
MEDICAL MARIJUANA
marijuana
and the use of related opioid drugs. The authorswere able to analyze
the effect that the legalization of marijuana had in a population
concerning the opioids that were used by various people all across a
jurisdiction(Powell, Pacula, & Jacobson,2018). The result of this
study helps me to understand the impact that legalization of marijuana
would have on dealing with the opioid crisis, which is one of the main
challenges facing theUnited States in the current period. Understanding
the impact that the marijuana laws have on the state level can also help
in the development of a details federal law that can help cover the
whole country on various issues. The study also forms a sound basis
forexplaining why more states should take these steps and legalize
marijuana. The study “Medical Marijuana for Treatment of Chronic Pain and
Other Medical and Psychiatric Problems,” was conducted by Kevin P.
Hill, and was published in the year 2015. The study goes into detail when
looking at the applicability of medical marijuana in the treatment of
medical problems that are currently facing patients. The use of
marijuana in dealing with chronic pain has been the most talked-about.
This chronic pain affects patients that are affected by diseases such as
cancer, and they have a long term impact on the patients. From the
assessment, the author was able to determine that the medical marijuana
is used to tread a wide range of issues and while a few of them have
evidence to support the treatment, the majority of the drugsdo not have
any medical research that supports their use(Hill, 2015). The study can
help me understand which limits to observed when dealing with patients
and which areas can have evidence-based treatment with medical
marijuana. The issue of medical marijuana affecting the use of
recreational marijuana is something that has always been at the center
of any discussion concerning the use of medical marijuana. Thorough
“Medical marijuana laws and adolescent marijuana use in the USA from
1991 to
MEDICAL MARIJUANA
resultsfrom annual, repeated
cross-sectional surveys” a team of researchers was able to analyze data
over a period running from 1991 to 2014. This data was used to gauge the
impact that medical marijuana had on the consumption of cannabis for
recreation purposesby the adolescent. The people in the age group that
has received the most focus are among the most vulnerable since they can
be easily influenced in society to make decisions that can impact all
the other individuals. The findings show that when a state passes
medical marijuana laws, this does not lead to an increase in the
consumption of marijuana by adolescent individuals(Hasin, Wall, Keyes,
Cerdá, Schulenberg, O’Malley, & Feng, 2015). This research helps
discredit one of the major arguments that the federal government puts in
place.ConclusionFrom the analysis of the articles identified above, it
is evident that Medical marijuana should be legalized in all places, as
the advantages of the process are many more compared to the
disadvantages. The risk ofthe consumption of recreational marijuana
increasing due to medical marijuana is very low and should not be an
issue for the government. The use of the drug will also help the
government to deal with the opioid crisis byproviding alternative
medicineto the opioid-based painkillers that are in the market.
