Guns and youth violence have become more inseparable over the years. What was once fighting in the backyard over a trivial dispute, is now killing on school playgrounds at times of recess. Criminals are getting younger and younger. The worst part is not these virulent acts are committed, it is that these juveniles are showing no signs of remorse.
Decreasing these tragedies can be done by implementing programs that strive to provide counseling and moral support. Most of the time, these kids are involved in violence because of their love for money. 1 Timothy 6:10 states that the love of money is the root to evil (New King James Version), imagine a misguided child who loves money.
I believe that schools should implement classes that reveal students God given talents, which in return grow interest in positive activities. Once these children figure out what they love and are naturally talented at, they will have passion for that instead of the street life. Speaking from personal experience, I am a prime example. These children are growing up in broken homes, and just require a bit more attention.
We as Christian leaders can create a support group today to help fight the cause. As long as the Holy Spirit guides the way, victory will be obtained.
Fact: “The Washington Post reported that more than 26,000 children and teenagers in the U.S. have been killed by guns since the 1999 Columbine massacre, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And that number actually understates child gun deaths, because it’s only current to 2016.” (9 Youth Gun Violence Statistics That Will Make Your Jaw Drop, Seth Millstein, Mar 23 2018, Child Gun Deaths Since Columbine)
