Why is Ashford University a great place to obtain an education?

For those interested in going back to college or even just starting college for the first time it can be nerve racking and even scary. So many colleges or universities offer so many different degrees that it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Rest assured that at Ashford University this is not the case. Each student is provided with an entrance counselor to help with any and all needs and questions to help you get started. Even if you do not know what degree plan you want to follow these counselors will help you find your way to entry level classes that you can be completing while still trying to figure out your degree plan. After you get settled and figure out your degree plan, you will be transferred over from an entrance counselor to an academic advisor. This advisor will continue to help you with choosing courses and making sure that you have all of your academic needs taken care of. At Ashford the students are the first priority. Ashford University really is the best place for those desiring a better future.

Persuasion is an attempt to influence other to adopt a certain point of view or convince them to take action (Ashford, 2018). Whenever someone can attempt others to accept an opinion on a subject or take actions that are recommended, that is due to persuasion. Ashford University provides students with a wide variety of online degrees that can be obtain through them and offers five to six week courses, with 90 max transfer credits, with the availability to take one class at a time. Personally, I have been to three other colleges and with the flexibility that Ashford has offers me, I am glad I chose to attend this university.

Five to six week courses allow students to be able to engage in the classes online from anywhere in the world. Ashford University is an accredited online university and is readily available for any level of student. With the online classes, there is much to be learned in a short amount of time, but from pass class the work load is not over bearing.

Ashford University allows 90 credit max to be transferred from existing colleges attended to go towards a degree. This is a great benefit because Ashford University take into account the classes that potential students have already completed. This allows prospects to not have to take classes over that they have taken.

Finally, through Ashford, students can take one class at a time to fit their busy needs. With only taking one class at a time, students are not overwhelmed continuing to get a higher education. This also allows students to maintain their current life style while pursing a better education for themselves.

Question 2:

Find a communication example that you believe could be improved by applying the visual design principles you read about this week. It can be from any medium – a webpage, a magazine ad, a promotional email, an illustration from a report, etc., as long as you can display it in the forum. Identify the visual weaknesses and describe ways to fix them. Explain why you believe the message isn’t as effective as it could be and how your suggestions would make it more effective. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings. (Must attach a link for the image that is being discussed)

The concept of Bauhaus design is to strengthen the viewer’s perception and reaction through a harmonious balance between different expressions of pictures, text, and art (Stern, 2012). If the balance is achieved, a positive reaction can be achieved from the viewer. However, if done poorly, the viewer may become tired or confused, thus making the message unsuccessful. Sometimes a printed visual advertisement does not achieve the Bauhaus pattern and thus appears to be too busy. In this event the viewer can become lost in the graphic design and quickly become tired of trying to comprehend the intended message.

I selected an advertisement which fails to follow the Bauhaus design concept. tarting with consistency, even though this is only one page, it lacks consistency in the size of photographs used and in font type, as well as font size. I would suggest to at least get the font type consistent.

There is no contrast between different elements of the flier. There are many bright colors but they are in each area of the flier, creating a lack of contrast. Basically there is nothing that really distinguishes one area from another. At a minimum, the trees should be removed from around the cabin and some different type of border could be placed around the cabin to show a contrast and make the eyes navigate to the area that is different. Additionally, there should be a better contrast with the phone number at the bottom of the page.

This add has no balance. The central axis should be the resort cabin. I would recommend the cabin be placed in the middle of the page.Next is emphasis. When I first saw this add, I thought they were try to sell parrots. The emphasis here is clearly on the parrot. I would recommend reducing the parrot image to half size or removing it altogether. The convention might be considered good because it is the top image and it is presented in a large graphic. I think this may be the only thing done correctly in this ad. Last is the simplicity. This add is way too cluttered. I recommend removing the palm trees from around the borders, eliminate one of the pictures of the pool and as I mentioned before, kill the parrot. My last recommendation would be to get rid of the employee who created this advertisement.

As our world becomes more digitized, how messages are communicated is becoming more important. People consume media at a fast pace and if the content is not carefully crafted between the words and visuals, the information can be lost with the click of a mouse. We have learned that visuals must be planned carefully and created with care so they work together seamlessly with the text (Bovee, 2016). This concept is vitally important even when trying to communicate a simple message that needs to be shared across different ages and languages.

A great example of this is handwashing. It is the easiest and single best practice to avoid spreading germs and disease. It is so important, that the CDC just had Global Handwashing Day on October 15th. (CDC, 2018). But how do you attempt to get everyone on board with doing it regularly and in the proper manner? Lengthy memos and scientific statistics don’t persuade people to do that. What if you are a small child and you haven’t learned to read yet? What about the person traveling to a different country who doesn’t know the language, but still needs the reminder to wash their hands? The answer is to provide visuals that show what needs to be done. The link to the CDC’s scientific data on hand-washing is provided in my references below. It is accurate and important information. However, the format is visually boring and far too lengthy for people to want to read. However, by creating a document that has easy-to-understand graphics and using eye-catching colors and larger fonts, the attached document conveys the same message, but does so in much more appealing manner and one that everyone can understand. I would venture to say that if the fact sheet was posted in bathrooms, the number of people washing their hands properly would decrease significantly.
